Lifeline Program

Access to reliable internet is essential for everyday life. Whether you're attending online classes, working remotely, accessing healthcare resources, or staying connected with family and friends, a dependable internet connection helps keep you connected to the things that matter most.

To help make internet service more affordable, Lake Region Fiber participates in the Lifeline program.

What Is Lifeline?

Lifeline is a federal assistance program funded through the Universal Service Fund. The program provides discounted internet service to eligible low-income households, helping ensure that more families have access to essential communication services.

Eligible Lake Region Fiber customers may receive a monthly credit of up to $34.25 on their internet bill through the Lifeline program.

Who Qualifies?

You may qualify for Lifeline if your household meets certain income requirements or if you participate in one of the following programs:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Medicaid
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Veterans Pension Benefits
  • Certain Tribal Assistance Programs

Only one Lifeline benefit is allowed per household, and the benefit may be applied to either a wireline or wireless service.

How to Apply

Eligibility is verified through the National Verifier, a system managed by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC). Once approved, eligible customers can begin receiving their monthly Lifeline discount on qualifying internet service.

Because Lifeline benefits are non-transferable, households cannot receive benefits from multiple service providers.

Individuals with disabilities who need assistance with the application process can contact the Lifeline Support Center for help.

Annual Renewal Is Required

To continue receiving Lifeline benefits, participants must renew their eligibility every year.

USAC will mail a renewal notice annually, and recipients have 60 days from the date of the letter to complete the renewal process. Failure to renew by the deadline will result in the loss of the Lifeline discount.

Keeping your information current and responding promptly to renewal notices helps ensure uninterrupted benefits.

Additional Support for Survivors

Under the Safe Connections Act, survivors of domestic violence or human trafficking may qualify for emergency Lifeline support for up to six months. The Safe Connections Act also makes it easier for survivors to separate their phone service from a plan shared with an abuser, helping provide a safer path to independence and communication.

Stay Connected

At Lake Region Fiber, we believe everyone deserves access to affordable, reliable internet service. The Lifeline program helps make that possible by reducing the cost of connectivity for qualifying households throughout our communities.
